Announcement Notification Scenarios

The below describes different scenarios for notifications and announcements in Blackboard.

For announcements, when students are enrolled in the course and the course is unavailable:

• If the selection to send an email is unchecked
  • The announcement will appear under the announcements tab in the course once the course becomes available.
  • The announcement will appear in the activity stream.
  • The same goes for scheduled announcements when email is unchecked.
• If send email is checked:
  • Then students will be sent an email from the system with the announcement, regardless of course availability but are still unable to access the course.
  • Once the course becomes available, the announcement will appear in the activity stream. 

For announcements, when students are enrolled in the course and the course is available:

• If the selection to send an email is unchecked
  • The announcement will appear in the students activity stream.
  • The announcement will pop up when entering the course
• If send email is checked:
  • the announcement will send an email
  • the announcement will appear in the activity stream
  • the announcement will pop up when entering the course
  • The same will occur for scheduled emails when the course is available.

If students are not enrolled in the course at the time the announcement is posted, they will not receive an email.
