What can this guide help with?
This guide will cover exam imports from a word document, the formatting requirements, timing requirements, and ticket submission.
What is an Exam Import Request?
An exam import request can be opened when an instructor has a formatted word file with exam questions that they want to be imported into Blackboard. These word documents must be all multiple choice questions, as no other type of question can be imported via word file. Additionally,
- Individual instructors will need to set the availability, due date, and all other test settings.
- Overall grades will need to be adjusted to account for the new exam.
Formatting Requirements
Individual questions must be formatted in the following manner. Note the use of periods (".") and not parenthesis:
1. Question title
a. answer
b. answer
*c. answer
d. answer
Correct answers must be indicated with an asterisk, at the FRONT of the answer. If you are creating this document in Microsoft word, do not use the word auto-numbering. This will prevent you from marking correct answers and cause formatting issues during the exam import that will need to be adjusted later.
Questions must also be numbered in ascending order, starting at number 1. Questions should count upwards, in order, up to the last question with no numbers skipped.
Remove any bolded items, highlighted items, or document comments.
Timing Requirements
Requests for an exam import must be made 5-10 business days in advance. This will allow for proper upload of the exam, and the instructor time to setup the exam.
Ticket Submission
At the top of this page, click on Submit a Request, and open an individual course support ticket. Please indicate the exam name, course(s) where it needs to be uploaded, and attached the word file.
